Why should I want to swap files to file-swap.com?
As our slogan says: Give one file, get one free!
File-swap.com is meant to be fun. It acts as a big black box. You put in one file and you will receive a different file in exchange which someone swaped earlier.
If many users swap cool files many other users recieve cool files.
Which files should I upload?
Short to say: Files that you would like to have if you would not have them, yet.
Swap pictures of your cat or your favourite holiday pictures, type your favourite jokes into a text file and swap it. There are nearly no limits for your creativity. You just have to make sure that you own the rights for the content or that the content is published under a license which permits you to share it on the web.
Which file types are supported?
You can swap "standalone" files. Files which make sense on their own. For example pictures, text files, PDFs or audio files. You may not swap archives or executable files.
It does not work for me. I can upload files but I cannot download anything. What's wrong?
Your web browser has to support Javascript and Session Cookies (cookies which expire as soon as you close the web browser). If one of these is not enabled you will not be able to download anything.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes. Currently the maximum file size 500kB.
The minimum file size is 1 Byte :-)
What about the copyright?
We take copyright very seriously. You have to make sure that the files which you swap are either created by you or that they
are published under a license which permits you to share it on the web. If the content's distribution license demands to distribute additional content
(e.g. naming of the owner) you have to make sure that this content is contained within the content you upload (e.g. as an overlay or border text for images).
If you ever get a file from file-swap.com and you have the impression that copyright is violated, please tell us.
What do users say about file-swap.com?
Of course most of them like it. I could quote them here but that would be as boring as on all the other sites which quote happy users but there is one email I cannot hold back:
hey guys, your page sucks a** bigtime, i was able to swap only one file, then i was just getting anoyyed by the fu***ng "that file already exists" or "invalid characters in name" or different kinds of buillshit from you.(i was trying to swap different files)
So I just wanted to say F*** YOU, you just ruined my day, so i'm gonna f*** somebody's day too, because s**t like this really pisses me off.

Has this site been in the press?
Yes, for several times and in several countries, mostly computer magazines reported about this useful site. What we liked best by now, is, that we're mentioned in Computerworld, Norway as one of the silliest Web 2.0 sites.
What else can I swap?
In the meantime file-swap.com has three known descendants (but you never know, what it does in its sparetime ;-) developed by people who liked the idea.
A direct child is Sketch Swap by Philipp and Dominik and the grandchild is Question Swap by Adam.
2006-02-25: A new child has appeared on the web: Rajiv's Linkswap.
